My advice: don't take their crap. These transmisiasts and transphobes enjoy going out of their way—indeed, they fell it is their duty—to impose their self-righteous paranoia on the rest of us, and they get away with it because most people are uncomfortable involving themselves in conflict. I am not surprised, no, not at all, because I personally have been a victim of their smear campaigns, because I will not bow to their unhealthy need to dominate others. I personally have been sexually assaulted by such women, in public, in specifically lesbian spaces and other spaces where inclusion is the rule, rather than the exception.

Thank you for doing what you could to mitigate the problem. I have very fond memories of my one visit to Milwaukee, and I would hate for them to be tarnished permanently by incidents like this. It is time for the transmisiasts and transphobes to accept that they have long since lost the battle of public opinion, and to take their festering vitriol and bury under a rock, never to trouble those of us who have compassion for one another again. The tide has turned, and trans women have won the war. Make way for the arc of history; it has found justice, at last.Gemma Seymourhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16286558081131448753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906442678610585215.post-15761331132623470632014-06-09T11:20:41.791-07:002014-06-09T11:20:41.791-07:00I am sad to hear this behavior that is unbecoming ...I am sad to hear this behavior that is unbecoming in an environment that is designed to celebrate diversity. I am also outraged at the people who might have come to the defense of people (who happen to be trans) who are trying to use the bathroom. What is this strange, angry, overt hostility that regards bathroom privilege? Who owns this toilet anyway? My heart breaks when people, who should know better...don't. Is it ignorance of the subject? No...I don't smell stupidity. I smell anger but where does it come from? Is this aggressive and hostile potty policing something that is generational? I used a male/female bathroom at a bakery in Shorewood. As I opened the door, a twenty-something female was standing there and made a great demonstration of staring at the male/female icon before the door. I wonder what she would do in most countries that, not only don't have separate male/female toilets...but no doors, no white toilet bowl, paper to wipe...you get a hole in the floor and (if you're lucky) a hand rail.
Oh.....to be a fly on THAT wall!
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00214563449152593049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906442678610585215.post-60053242789151413112014-06-09T09:39:00.453-07:002014-06-09T09:39:00.453-07:00I have always found that people apply "kindne...I have always found that people apply "kindness" or value being non-confrontational very selectively and in complete accordance with their own comfort level, and therefore never been persuaded that it is a valid motivation for much of anything. The idea that anyone who wasn't completely intoxicated (and that would only be a reason, not an excuse) would ask someone what genitals they carry reminds me of an appearance actor Tom Selleck made on a talk show years ago. During questions from the audience, a woman demanded he remove his shirt. His response was, "you first."

Is it a sign of our puritanical and dysfunctional nature that we confuse using the bathroom with a sexually charged atmosphere when the majority of folks find little arousing about taking (leaving?) a pee? It's particularly confusing to me in a traditional western women's restroom where everyone is sitting in their own stalls behind a closed anyway! Do these people make other-gendered visitors to their home step outside onto the front lawn when they need to use the bathroom? Is hand washing in a public space now an erotic activity?

Sadly, I think it comes down to the fact that we are much more tight assed and unwelcoming than we believe, even - or perhaps most apparently - when we believe we can relax and "be ourselves" at places like Pridefest. In those moments the truth surfaces, and the truth is ugly indeed.Craig Berglandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04253113790196721697noreply@blogger.com
